Benefits of Rice Water on your skin
Yes, you heard me correctly, rice water. Long before rice water went viral on TikTok, the beauty practice had been used for centuries by women in Asia.
Traditional beauty tips and tricks from the Eastern hemisphere, particularly South Asia and Southeast Asia, are all the rage in the Western world.
As more knowledge and information is learnt about non-chemical application of home remedies on the skin, one such hack from ancient Japan has been doing the rounds in the last few years – rice water!
Rice water is the starchy water that is left over after soaking or boiling rice, and it contains a variety of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that are beneficial for the skin.
These antioxidants inhibit the activity of elastase (an enzyme that damages elastin). Thus, it could help maintain the elasticity of the skin and slow down the signs of aging due to the hydration it provides.
This is how you make it. Take a cup of rice. You may choose any variety of rice.
Give it a quick rinse to clean it. Pour three cups of water into a bowl. Soak the rice in the water for 30 minutes. Use your fingers to gently stir and press down the rice. Strain the rice and collect the water in a glass bottle.
Refrigerate it. You can also pour it into ice trays and used a cube each day to help with skin routine. Do not wash the rice water off you. Leave it to dry.
Give this a try and in about a month you will start to see a difference in your skin.
