Foundation Application

Tue Mar 10, 2015

Now that you have purchased your perfect match foundation with the help of my guide to buying foundation, it’s time to apply it to your face.

1. Prep your face by cleaning and moisturizing it. Moisturizing your face before applying foundation protects your face from redness and drying. Avoid using your regular moisturizing lotion because it contains oils that may clog your pores and cause breakouts.

2. Brushes vs Sponges

Foundation can be applied with either a foundation brush or a sponge. Below are the PROS and CONS of using brushes and sponges:{{more}}

SPONGE PROS Inexpensive

Great for softening and blending foundation.

BRUSH PROS

Brushes tend to last a longer period of time. They blend foundation evenly.

SPONGE CONS

They harvest bacteria after the first use and this can lead to breakouts. They require cleaning and washing on a regular basis.

BRUSH CONS

They absorb a lot of foundation. This wastes your product. Brushes tend to be expensive.

3. With the use of your tool of choice (brush/sponge), apply your make-up in natural light. Spread the make-up evenly over your face, especially in areas where there are blemishes and uneven skin tones. Be sure to blend the foundation into your hairline and neck for an all natural look.

Tip: There’s no need to plaster the makeup onto your face. Always use a light hand.
