With limited staffing, many employees feel overworked and insecure about their current positions. This much change over a short time period can drastically increase stress levels. In order to stay healthy and productive on the job, every employee must have a game plan to combat this pressure. Here are a few suggestions:
1. Identify the source of the problem.
Are people and their behaviours the cause of your anxiety? Are you nervous about losing your job and not being able to provide for your family? Identifying the cause of the stress makes it easier to create solutions.
2. Become proactive.
If your concern is job security, begin to position yourself for a transition, in the event you lose your job. First, update your resume, assess your skills and build on your network of people who can refer you to available openings. Then, put together a plan with deadlines and specific action steps. If your stress is connected to co-workers and their behaviour, consider having a conversation with those involved and address the issue immediately.
3. Modify your schedule.
Working overtime for extended periods may make your bank account look healthy, but at the same time you may be sabotaging your health.
4. Take time for yourself.
Sometimes, stress can be caused by an overactive, overworked imagination. Donât wait for your body to become ill. Itâs imperative to take a few minutes each day to relax or meditate. This is the time to rejuvenate and refresh your mind and body before tackling your daily tasks. Remember to eat healthy meals and drink lots of water to keep your energy up and your resistance level high.
