Former Miss SVG contestant among 75 who received police training in the UAE
The 2022 Miss SVG pageant contestant, Police Constable (PC)353 Coombs, and Able-bodied Seaman (AB)90 Deszon Andrews of the SVG Coast Guard, returned home on Saturday, February 8, after undertaking a four-month-long Level 5 Police Science Course and Leadership Skills Programme at the Abu Dhabi Officer Academy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The training ran from October 14, 2024, to February 4, 2025.
“The knowledge and experience gained from this course has empowered and enhanced me with the skills necessary to handle complex law enforcement challenges effectively,” Coombs shared.
Coombs who was a sponsored by Intransit Export in the 2022 Miss SVG pageant added that the programme combined theory and practice techniques geared at preparing participants to enhance security, uphold justice, and contribute to global policing.
“The culture was unique and different, but I was able to adapt easily,” Coombs shared about her experience in the Middle East.
AB Andrews went more in-depth sharing that the programme provided skills in crime investigation, riot control, security crisis management, and firearm proficiency.
“This training has undoubtedly strengthened my expertise in crime prevention, security operations, and community policing, reinforcing my commitment to enhancing national and regional security efforts,“ Andrews explained.
He was grateful for the collaboration with the international law agencies who he said provided crucial insights and strategies relating to global policing, as well as best security practices.
According to the police press release, there were a total of 75 officers who were a part of the training, hailing from multiple Caribbean nations such as Antigua, Grenada, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, St Kitts and Nevis, as well as police professionals from different international policing agencies and the UAE.
The officers underwent a comprehensive training programme combining physical fitness, endurance, and riot control drills with academic studies in community policing, crisis management, and criminal investigations.
Commissioner of Police Mr. Enville Williams, together with the members of the RSVGPF, acknowledged PC Coombs and AB Andrews for their dedication to professional growth and their accomplishment in finishing the challenging programme.
