REMEMBERING CHRISTOBEL MC LEAN 102 YRS

26.NOV.10

By Nina Maloney

Christobel Mc Lean, a Senior Citizen of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, was born in Prospect and lived for many years in Belmont. She was the mother of one child, Mrs. Gertrude Browne Williams.

In 1961, Christobel migrated to the U.K. to join her daughter, where she was a tower of strength in helping to care for her large family of five generations who were all present at her 100th birthday celebration two years ago. From 1979 she became the full-time carer of that large family. This family compromised- 1 daughter, eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

On her 100th birthday she received the traditional congratulatory message from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the second, as well as a visit from the Newham Mayor Sir Robin Wales who had this to say: “It is a real delight to meet Christobel. She is the matriarch of a wonderful and close family and is loved and fused over by everyone. She is a special lady and I was honoured to be invited to share in her party and offer best wishes from everyone at Newham Council.” Christobel loved life and lived it to its fullest. She was a loving, caring and devoted soul.

In return she received the best of everything from her daughter Gertrude. No praises is too high for you, Getie. You have done well.

After a full and rewarding life Christobel passed away peacefully at her Manor Park home in the U.K. on 2nd October, 2010, and was buried on the 19th October, 2010. She is survived by two sisters, Olive Mofford in St. Vincent and Louise Franklyn in Canada, and her immediate family mentioned before. Well done, Christobel, thou good and faithful servant, you have fought the good fight with Christian fortitude you have run the race and you have kept the faith. Precious is the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Rest eternal grant unto you oh Lord and may light perpetual shine upon her. Rest in peace.
