SVG grab six medals at CARIFTA Aquatics

Kione De Shong won gold, silver and bronze; while Caghry Wiliams copped a silver and a bronze; and Kennice Greene, returned a bronze, as St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) earned six medals at the 2025 Carifta Aquatic Championships held at the National Aquatics Centre, in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago, from April 19 to 23.

It was the eleventh consecutive occasion of the championships that St Vincent and the Grenadines medalled.

In completing the trio of medals, De Shong left the best for last when he claimed gold in the Boys 11-12 Breaststroke on the final day of competition in the pool on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

He clocked 1:14.94, to be first to the stop the clock.

It was one- two for St Vincent and the Grenadines, when Caghry Williams timed 1:15.79, for the silver medal in the event.

Both De Shong and Williams had finished second and third respectively in the 50m Breaststroke final, decided on Monday, April 21.

De Shong’s silver was earned after he swam the distance in a time of 34.22 seconds; Williams’ bronze came in a 34.76s timing.

Greene bagged her bronze also on Monday night, timing 28.73 in the Girls 15-17 Butterfly.

De Shong, SVG’s triple medal winner, got the country off the mark on day one, Saturday, when he claimed bronze in the 200m, with a 2:46.77 clocking.

He was the lone Vincentian to medal in 2024, when the Carifta Aquatics Championships were held in The Bahamas.

Other than De Shong, Williams, and Greene, St Vincent and the Grenadines was represented by Belle Adams, Matthew Ballah, Brandon George, and Tyler Robinson.

The quartet, while not making it to the podium, registered personal bests, and were good enough to reach finals.

Brian George, manager; along with Anwar Mejahed, head coach; and Alyssa Davis completed the Vincentian official contingent.
