Thirteen selected for CARIFTA 2025
ST.VINCENT AND THE Grenadines (SVG) will be represented by 13 athletes at the 2025 edition of the Carifta Games, set for the Haseley Crawford Stadium, Trinidad and Tobago.
The Vincentian team comprises six athletes who will compete in the Under- 20 category, and seven in the Under-17 age group.
Leading the list of Under-20 selectees is AJ Delpesche, who will compete in the 200m as well as the Mixed Relay.
Delron Delpesche and J’ Mar Saunders will run the 100m; J’avair Cato, the long jump and triple jump; with Shaquania Jacobs running the 200m, 400m and mixed relay; and Tedre O’ Neil competing in the pole vault.
The Under-17 selectees are Tashsanique Francis, who debuts in the Girls shot putt; Kenneth Gurley in the Boys 1500m and 3000m; Romario Mc Dowall, the Boys 100 and 200m; Roshaun Phillips, the Triple Jump; Kenesha Richards will run in the Girls 100 and 200m; and Kesiann John, the Girls 1500m, 3000m and mixed relay; while Leemore Ollivierre is slotted to compete in the Boys 200m and mixed relay.
Notably absent are Keo Davis and Thyra Charles, who both finished fourth in the Under-20 Boys 200m and the Under-20 Girls 400m , respectively at last year’s Carifta Games held in Grenada.
Davis has been ruled out because of hamstring injury suffered last month; while Charles, who is studying in the USA, cannot attend due to school commitments. Apart from the 13 athletes, the management team includes Jacintha Ballantyne, Manager; Chester Morgan, Head Coach; Michael Williams, Assistant Coach; and Delcia Stay-Layne, as Chaperone.
The Vincentian contingent, minus Mc Dowall, who is based in Antigua, and Cato, who resides in Jamaica, leaves for Trinidad and Tobago today, Thursday, April 17.
