Vincentian Karatetas net three bronze medals in Panama
Karate athletes from St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) copped three bronze medals at the Central Caribbean Cup and Training Camp staged in Panama, from March 25 to 29, 2025.
Contesting the Kata event, Liam Bollers was a bronze medallist in the Under-12 Male category with weight of 30 kg, or less.
Also finishing on the podium was Rishawn Roache, whose bronze was achieved in the Junior Male category; those under 68 kg.
Amiyah Bascombe, competing in the Girls Under-14, those under 47 kg, captured SVG’s other medal.
The medallists were part of an eight-member team that represented the country.
The other karatekas who donned the national colours were Ariel Da Silva, Aaron Mc Donald, Christian Joseph, as well as Rishaud Roache and Isaiah Caesar.
Da Silva competed in the Female Under-12; Mc Donald, the Cadet; Joseph, in the Junior category; and Rishaud Roache and Caesar, the Male Under-21.
However, it was not all competition for the Vincentians and karatekas from other countries, because on March 25 and 26, they were exposed to some expert training from well-known instructors.
Among them were three- time world champion, Douglas Brose of Brazil; Antonio Diaz of Venezuela; as well as Driss El Mannani, who is an international coach.
The four-day event was under the aegis of the Panama Karate Federation, with collaboration from the Centro Caribe Sport.
The Vincentian team was accompanied by Claude Bascombe as Manager/delegate; Adrian John, Referee/judge; and Cathianna Greaves, Physiotherapist.
