Two new champions crowned in Business Houses Table Tennis
Two new champions were crowned when the 2025 National Properties Limited/ Sean Stanley Table Tennis Academy Business Houses Tournament came to an end on Monday, March 31, at the Calliaqua Town Hall.
Civil Aviation defeated the 2024 winners, Comsports, 3 games to 2, in a humdinger of a final that evening.
Navigating Civil Aviation’s title were Jelani Cumberbatch who saw off Corbett Crick 11/7, 11/4, and Davon Cato, 11/7, 13/11; while Miclos Swift beat Crick, 11/3, 11/9.
For the dethroned Comsports, Cato beat Swift, 11/9, 11/6, and Michael John registered an 11/9, 11/4 win over Stanton Gomes.
Civil Aviation got to the title match, defeating RSVG Police, 3-2, thanks to wins from Bascombe and Swift.
Bascombe beat Clint Da Souza, 11/8, 11/2, with Swift also overcoming Da Souza, 11/5, 11/7.
In the other semi-finals, Comsports defeated Cambridge Construction 3 games to 1. Cato beat Colin Cambridge 11/7, 11/6, and Desbourn Nanton, 11/6, 11/6. Adding to Comsports’ win was Michael John , who got the better of Junior Byron-Cox, 11/7, 11/6.
Nanton beat Crick 11/6, 11/8, to record the solitary win for Cambridge Construction.
In the third place play off, Police defeated Cambridge Construction 3 games to 1
This, as Bascombe got the better of Nanton 11/9 , 11/7, and Cambridge, 13/11, 11/9 ; while DaSouza beat Cambridge 4/11 11/7 11/7
For Cambridge Construction, Byron- Cox had an 11/8, 11/9 win over Shoy.
A new winner was also crowned in the Open Singles, as Jelani Cumberbatch saw off Desbourn Nanton 11/9, 11/6 to perch at the top of the tree.
Colin Cambridge finished third.
Davon Cato won the Open Singles in 2024.
