SVG champs Bilateral Chess Tournament

St Vincent and the Grenadines promised to wrestle the Chatoyer Bilateral Chess title from inaugural winners, Grenada and this they did, as the host romped to a 7-3 win over their counterparts.

Staged at the Murray Heights Conference Room at Mc Kies Hill, from March 14 to 16, 2025, the Vincentians made amends for the 1-3 defeat they suffered in 2024.

The local team proved the superior bunch, as they scalped three of the five rounds, whilst Grenada trumped a solitary round, with the other drawn.

It was mission accomplished for the Vincentian outfit, according to the manager, Orisia Robinson, who was delighted with her players’ effort and tenacity.

“Each game challenged us to push to the limits, sharpen our skills and grow both individually and as a team. The opportunity to compete against such talented opponents has been truly inspiring and we are grateful for every lesson learned along the way. We leave this event with a deep sense of pride, knowing we gave our best, won, and represented St Vincent and the Grenadines with honour”, Robinson said.

She placed the eventual victory to the will by the local players to win and represent their country well.

Making the mark for St Vincent and the Grenadines were Ariana Balcombe, Ayanna Gilbert, Daria Bologova, Stacy Baptiste- King, Le ‘ Mar Abbott, Verdant Shetty, Dantes La Primavera, Jason Veira, and Troy Sassine.

The tournament was supported by the National Lotteries Authority; Argos Development; A & A Electronics; Bruce Law Chambers; ReMax Realty; Vitamalt; the SVG Tourism Authority; and Ima Grenada.

Next on the calendar of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Chess Federation is the hosting of a Rapid Chess Tournament on April 21, 2025.
