Emery Bailey cops Player of the Week award

A four -goal blitz versus Richmond Hill, and a brace against Sion Hill, pushed Largo Heights’ Emery Bailey to receive the accolade of Player of the Week, in the first ever FC Sunday Sweaterz Over- 40s Invitational Football Tournament, that began in earnest last Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the Calliaqua Playing Field.

Bailey was also the player of the match in his team’s 6-1 win over Richmond Hill, and added another when he was adjudged the stand out, when Largo Height trumped over Sion Hill, 3-1.

The double win for Largo Height sees them on six points, thus heading up Group A. The other Group A match played on the opening day, resulted in a 2-2 draw between Calliaqua and Vintage.

Three matches were decided in Group B. On Trac Hope International beat Guardian General Barrouallie, 2-0; South Leeward Unified defeated Layou 3-1; while Layou recharged and reinforced to blank Over The River(OTR) 6-0.

Former national player, Shandel Samuel hit a hat-trick in Layou’s win against OTR, adding to his single strike against South Leeward Unified.

Meanwhile, joining Bailey as recipients of player of the match were South Leeward’s Joseph Ballantyne; Cauldric Sutherland of Hope International; Shane Daniel of Vintage; and Chester Morgan of Layou.

And, if opening day was anything to judge by, then this Sunday, March 23, will be another fun-filled occasion at the Calliaqua Playing Field, when another six matches in the tournament are listed for decision.
