Cato rewrites National Triple Jump record
J’aviar Cato is the new holder of the St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) Male Under-20 Triple Jump record.
Competing at the Corporate Area High School Championships at the Ashenheim Stadium in Jamaica, last Saturday, March 8, 2025, Cato leapt to 15.22 meters, copping gold on behalf of his school, Jamaica College.
In attaining that leap, Cato erased Uroy Ryan’s record of 15.02 meters, established in 2022.
The weekend proved a successful one for Cato who, on Friday March 7, placed third in the long jump which earned him qualification for the 2025 Carifta Games, set for the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago.
He sprang off the board to record 7.21 meters, bettering the Team Athletics SVG qualification A standard of 7.10 meters.
Meanwhile, Romario Mc Dowall made the St Vincent and the Grenadines B standard for the Under-17 Boys 100 metres, when he ran 11.01 seconds at the 2025 Cool & Smooth Antigua and Barbuda Inter-Schools Athletics Championships.
Mc Dowall was just outside the A standard of 11 seconds flat.
