Six new records set at Georgetown Secondary School Sports
Six records were broken when the Georgetown Secondary School held its 2025 Inter-house Athletics championships on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the Chili Playing Field.
The intermediate boys’ 800 metres and 1,500 metres, respectively were both broken by Kenneth Gurley of Hilton House. The previous 1,500 metres record was 4:50.90, set by Bradel Stephen, but Gurley shaved off more than three minutes to set a new record of 4:47.87. In the 800 metre, the old record was 2:14.49; Gurley slashed it to a new mark of 2:10.97.
The junior boys’ 100-metre record of 12:46 seconds, set in 2000, was erased by Rain Caine who established a new time of 11:91 seconds.
Shonte Matthias held the previous Intermediate girls 100-metre record of 12:50 seconds; that was re-written by Josean John in a new time of 12:00 seconds.
Another new record of 11:16 seconds was set in the Intermediate boys 100-metres by Jamal Spring, who erased the old mark of 11:25 seconds established in 2019 by Emi Balcombe.
Onesia Moore of Johnson House (yellow) lifted the junior girls title with 57 points; while Kevante Neptune of Hilton House (blue) with 28 points won the junior boys title.
The Intermediate girls champion title was shared between Makaida Nanton of Warrican House (green), and Saphira Collins of Johnson House, each with 36 points; with Kenneth Gurley of Hilton House lifting the Intermediate boys title with 65 points.
Moesha Richard of Hilton House with 51 points, copped the senior girls title; while the senior boys title was won by Mitchran John of Warrican House (green) with 57 points.
Hilton House emerged champions, having amassed 828 points; Warrican House, with 823 points was second; while Johnson House placed third with 663 points; and fourth was Henry House on 662 points.
