A Faithful Start to an Impactful Year
The Playaz Youth Academy (PYA) family came together for their annual church service, an occasion filled with gratitude, unity, and inspiration. Held under the theme of holistic youth development, this cherished tradition set the tone for a year dedicated to growth, teamwork, and purpose.
President, Orlando Fergusson delivered an inspiring message to players, parents, and supporters, emphasizing the Academy’s mission of shaping young lives beyond the basketball court. “Our programme is not just about basketball; we are teaching life lessons,” Fergusson shared passionately during the service at the Kingstown Baptist Church on January 12, 2025. Reflecting on the importance of community support, he noted, “We are quick to criticize young people before we try to help them. It shouldn’t be that way.”
The service underscored the importance of faith and strong values as essential tools in guiding and uplifting young people, a release from the academy states.
By starting the year with a collective prayer, PYA said it reaffirmed its dedication to instilling discipline, respect, and a sense of purpose within its members—both on and off the court. This gathering was not only a celebration of gratitude but also a reminder of PYA’s mission to inspire holistic growth. The Academy is a non-profit organization dedicated to the personal and athletic development of young people in St. Vincent and the Grenadines through sports, mentorship, and community outreach. The academy said in the release that it continues to provide mentorship and personal development opportunities, creating a ripple effect of positivity that extends far beyond the court.
“As we embark on another year of excellence, PYA extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported this vision. Together, we are shaping a brighter future for our youth and our community.”
