Mozakie King to represent SVG in Referees course
When Mozakie King took to officiating in local football matches just over a year and a half ago, it was then just something he was ‘trying’.
Today, it is something he has grown to love and sees it as a pathway towards a possible career.
And, with opportunities opening up for him to hone his craft, King plans to maximise the possibilities presented at every forum. Hence, his selection as St Vincent and the Grenadines’ representative at this weekend’s Next Generation Referee Course in Barbados from January 17 to 20, 2025, could not be more timely.
Anticipating to draw as much as possible from the facilitators, King commented: “My goals are to obtain the knowledge and understanding necessary to excel and elevate to the highest level”.
King is among 15 budding referees from the Caribbean Football Union, who will be part of the course.
At their disposal is a list of experts, from whose reservoir of knowledge the participants can benefit.
Among the facilitators are Dave Meikle, Kelesha Antoine, Dianne Ferreira- James, Victor Stewart, Ishan Phillip and Rohan Thobourne, all of whom are either Concacaf or FIFA certified. Additionally, the participants will have FIFA accredited referees, Odette Hamilton and Crystal Sobers, who will serve as mentors to the aspiring participants.
Over the three days, the participants will be exposed to classroom and practical sessions as they seek to advance their knowledge in officiating.
Launched in 2022, the CFU Next Generation Referee Course, which is supported by Concacaf, serves as a matriculation route for articipants to get on to the FIFA Refereeing International lists.
