Three athletes make Carifta standards
Three athletes have made the 2025 Junior Carifta standards as set by Team Athletics SVG.
The three already making the qualifying marks are J’avair Cato, AJ Delpesche and Trevel Sylvan.
At the JC Sprint Fest, held at Jamaica College in Kingston Jamaica on January 3, 2025, Cato leapt 14.83m in the under-20 Boys Triple Jump. His jump surpassed the 14.70m A standard.
Meanwhile, at the first Development meet of the 2025 season at the Sir Vincent Beache National Stadium on January 4, 2025, Delpesche won the under-20 Boys 200m in an A standard qualifying time of 21.47s. The A standard is 21.80s.
Attaining a “B” standard was Trevel Sylvan in the under-20 Boys High Jump, at the second development meet on January 11, 2025. Sylvan cleared a height of 1.95m, which is the B standard.
The standards is a two-tier system of qualification, divided into A and B.
According to Team Athletics selection policy, gaining the A standard guarantees selection for the team, while attaining the B standard guarantees consideration for team selection.
Thus, achieving the B qualifying mark, consistency of performances, regular attendance at TASVG development meets, and consultation with the athlete’s coach, are considered before a final decision is made.
The 2025 Carifta Games takes place in Trinidad and Tobago, April 19-21.
The next meet on the TASVG Calendar is the Pamenos Ballantyne Distance/Jumps Classic, on January 18, 2025, also at the Sir Vincent Beache Stadium at Diamond.
