Kingstown Prep champs Inter-Primary Schools football
Physical Education teacher of the Kingstown Preparatory School, Curtis Ben, is full of praise for his team which won the St. Vincent and the Grenadines 2024 Inter-Primary Schools Football Competition by way of a 3-1 defeat of the Questelles Government School on Sunday, December 8, 2024.
“We were very confident, but we can’t be too confident in football … it’s a very funny game. Just to say, in the qualification round, we had 22 points. CW Prescod had 23 points, and we had to wait on the final game for Canaoun with Bequia because they had 20 points,” Ben explained. “If they had won, we would have never made it to the next round, so we’re very grateful for Bequia beating Canaoun.”
Ben gave thanks to “ The Lord, and everybody that had a part to play in our success” singling out Ian Sardine, for his “very pivotal in sport at KPS”.
Logan Gylle twice in quick succession, found the back of the Questelles net as both teams kept attempting to break the 1-1 deadlock. Shaquille Dublin scored the other goal for Kingstown Prep; while Seven Jackson scored the lone goal for the Questelles Government School.
Despite the championship victory, Ben said he was not happy with the on-field play of his team.
“They didn’t share the ball … All of them [were] selfish.”
Most of his players are part of local clubs, the majority training with the System 3 programme which is run by Sardine.
Akira Charles, a female player featured in all the matches for Kingstown Prep and Ben concluded that “She played extremely well”.
Last year the Kingstown Preparatory School made it only to the first round of the competition.
