Maples are national Fast-5 netball champions
The Maples Netball Team are the 2024 National Division One Fast-5 Netball Champions, dethroning the X-Ceed Sports Club 1 which placed second, and the X-Ceed Sports Club 2 taking the third place.
During the closing ceremony on Tuesday December 3, 2024 at the Nutricia Netball Centre, Kingstown, the most outstanding player for each team was also announced.
In Division One, for the Maples Netball Team, it was Ketonna Campbell who played in the centre, goal defence, and goal keep positions. National Properties Netters had Kayla Miller who played as goal attack, goal shoot, and goal keeper. For Inter Island Trading Inc/DHL Mitres it was Jacintha Adams-George who played as centre, goal defence, and goal keeper. Shanice Daneil who played in the goal attack and goal shoot positions, was X-ceed Sports Club 1’s most outstanding player; while for X-ceed Sports Club 2, it was Akousa Horne who played as goal attack and goal shoot.
The Sion Hill netball team won in Division Two of the competition, followed by the Police Youth Club Ball Blazers in second place, and All Stars in the third spot.
Amonique Edwards who played as centre and goal attack was the most outstanding player for the Sion Hill netball team; Macy De Shong who played as goal attack and goal shooter was the most outstanding player for All Stars; while the Police Youth Club’s most outstanding player was Dalonya Questelles, who played as centre. Blaze Strikers’ most outstanding player was Shanice Warren who played as goal keeper, and for the Police Youth Club Ball Blazers, it was Arielle Mc Donald who played as goal keeper.
Maca Crushers were crowned champions in the Male Division of the Fast-5 competition, followed in second place by A M Shottas, with Advent Ballerz, third.
The most outstanding player for each team which competed in the Male Division were: For X-ceed Knights, Darrion Roberts who played as goal attack, goal shoot, and goal defence. For AM Shottas it was Kenran Daniel who played as goal defence, goal keeper, and centre. Keno Matthews who played as centre, was Maca Crushers’ most outstanding player, while for Advent Ballerz it was Philbert Prescott who played as goal attack.
Before the commencement of the closing ceremony, a special presentation of appreciation was made by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association to Woodrow Williams, a sports administrator and former athlete, who was named a Sports Ambassador for SVG in the October, 2024 independence address by Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves. Williams was unable to contain his emotions upon hearing the announcement.
