IT DAT Academy nips HP to take pre- season Relays Classic
With a combined total of 198 points, IT-DAT Academy nipped 2022 winners,High Performance (HP) into second place, at the second edition of the James Cordice/ X- Ceed Sports Club, pre-season Relay Classic.
Held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Diamond Track Facility, IT- DAT Academy’s males tallied 106 points, the females- 78, and the mixed contributed 10 points.
For High Performance, their male athletes also amassed 106 points, the females- 72, and the mixed- 18, giving them a combined total of 196 points.
Third place, X- Ceed Sports Club, reached 179 points, with the males contributing 91, the females- 76, and the mixed- 12.
In fourth place overall was X- Cel Track Club on 117 points, garnered by their males who counted 95, and the females- 22.
The other competing clubs were Chatoyer, 20 points; and Mustangs, 18, whose points came from their male athletes.
Seen as a precursor to the ensuing national track and field season, the Relays Classic has the sanction of Team Athletics SVG, who provided support via personnel, as well as technical help from its Meet Manager electronic system.
Medals were donated by James Cordice, a Vincentian who resides in the United States of America, who is the initiator of the event.
Cordice, originally from Clare Valley, migrated to the USA in 1988 after working in Mustique and Petit St Vincent, as well as in the US Virgin Islands.
Over time, he has served on several organisations in the USA, but has been involved in volunteer work in the Diaspora for many years.
He is credited for making the push for St Vincent and the Grenadines to be represented at the famed Penn Relays. His efforts were realised when the Thomas Saunders Secondary School, debuted at the relays in 2011.
