Vincentian, Savante Padmore wins Barbados Junior Open Squash title
Vincentian, Savante Padmore copped the Under-11 Boys title of the recently held Barbados Junior Open Squash Championships.
Staged at the Barbados Squash Club, from November 29 to December 1, 2024, Padmore swished all comers in style.
Taking on the best of Barbados in that age group, Padmore defeated Carter Farmer, 11-2, 11-1, 11-0; Thierry Padmore-11-3, 11-4, 11-2; and Elian Hamati- 11-2, 11-8, 11-6, tallying six points in the round robin format.
Apart from taking the Under-11 title, Padmore showed his pedigree in the Under-13 division reaching the semi- finals, and went toe to toe with Barbadian, Ethan Cyrus.
However, Cyrus prevailed 11-7, 8-11, 11-3, 7-11, 11-8.
The next best showing for St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), was Aiden De Freitas’ double second places in the Under-15 and Under-17 age categories.
In the two finals, De Freitas failed to upstage Daniel Sealey. In the Under-15 final, Sealey won 11-5, 11-2, 11-2; to take the
Under-17 accolade with an 11-0, 11-2, 11-2 trumping.
Another runner up position was attained by St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Nadira Morgan who placed second to Barbados’ Eboni Atherley in the Girls Under-19 decider.
Atherley left the venue with the title, defeating Morgan, 11-6, 11-0, 11-4.
The St Vincent and the Grenadines team was completed by Ethan Webster and De’ ron Lewis, who competed in the Boys Under-13 and Under-17 respectively.
Webster was beaten by Etah Cyrus of Barbados, 11-6, 7-11, 6-11, 8-11, as well as by Elian Hamati, also of Barbados, 11-8, 6-11, 11-9, 7-11, 11-9.
Lewis was defeated by Daniel Sealey, 11-1, 11-3, 11-5; by Benjamin King, 11-6, 11-3, 11-7; but defeated Ahzari Weekes, 15-17, 11-7, 11-8, 12-10.
