Police attains hat-trick in Masters Cricket
RSVG Police won from North East by 8 wickets to be crowned the 2024 SVG Masters 20/20 Cricket champions at the finals played last Sunday, November 24, 2024 at the Sion Hill Playing Field. It was their third consecutive twin of the title in the tournament.
In a match reduced to seven overs because of rain, North East reached 39 for 9 from their allotment.
Neil Baptiste was the pick of the RSVG Police bowling, grabbing 3 for 13. Salvan Browne led Police’s charge with 24, to see them to 40 for 2 from 5.4 overs.
The two teams reached the final, following wins in the semi-finals, played on Saturday, November 23.
Police saw off GECCU/ Stanley Browne Stubbs at the Sion Hill Playing Field on a faster scoring rate, after intervention by rain.
Stubbs posted 141 for 9 from 19 overs. Norlan Williams, 46; Newborn Joseph, 33; and Kissinger Mc Lean, 20 were the leading run-getters.
Bowling for Police, Hyron Shallow picked up 4 for 35, and Cliff James, 2 for 32.
Police replied with 134 for 4 off 16.4 overs. Mc Leon Williams blasted 70 not out; and Hyron Shallow contributed 23.
In the other game, North East defeated North Leeward also on a faster scoring rate.
North East got to 143 for 7 from their 20 overs. Renrick Williams made 63; Alisonn Dublin 26; and Marcus Costello, 22. Bowling for North Leeward, Kevin Michael took 3 for 14; and Fitz Allen Lewis 2 for 24.
North Leeward’s response was 95 for 5 off 17.1 overs. Clemore Millington top scored with 30, in a losing cause.
In the presentation of Awards:
North East’s Renrick Williams was the MVP of the Competition. He scored 349 runs, inclusive of one century, and two fifties. Additionally, Williams took three wickets and three catches.
Williams was one of three century makers. The others were Hyron Shallow and Salvan Browne, both of RSVG Police.
Topping the bowling was Stubbs’ Ricky Thomas, who had 14 scalps to his name.
