Sports Sciences Soon Grads win SVGCC Invitational Football Title
Sport Sciences Soon Grads emerged winners of the 2024 National Lotteries Authority, Unique Touch
Soccer/ St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Invitational Championships, last Friday night, November 15, 2024 at the Victoria Park.
Thus, the newly minted champions, became the first team from the college to lift the Invitational format of the competition.
Watched by a massive crowd, Sports Sciences Soon Grads kept their undefeated record intact when Isaiah Charles converted the lone goal in the second half.
Je Belle, though, had chances of their own, but failed to make good of them.
Earlier in the evening, System Three Youths took the third spot when they came from behind to defeat Sport Sciences Freshers 6-3.
Denzel Bascombe helped himself to four of the six goals, two of which were penalties, converting in the 14th, 65th, 69th and 73rd minutes.
Jahiem Kirby who netted in the 20th minute and Aeron Collis who added another in the 33rd minute completed the tally for System Three Youths.
The three goals for Sport Sciences Freshers came from the boot of Kareem Davis with conversion in the 8th and 48th minutes, while Dimitri Walker added the third in the 77th minute.
Soon Grads got to the final, after defeating System Three 7-6 on penalties, after a 2-2 draw in regulation time; while Je Belle saw off Freshers 5-3 in the other semi-final.
Following a change from an Inter- Divisional to an invitational competition in 2019, Police Youth Club was crowned inaugural winners.
Je Belle won in 2020 and 2022, while Volcanoes took the make-shift six- a-side format in 2021, and System Three Youths copped the title in the 2023 edition.
