Special Olympics SVG bags five medals at inaugural Beach Games
The St Vincent and the Grenadines team left its mark on the first ever Special Olympics Caribbean Initiative Regional Beach Games held in Trinidad and Tobago from November 8 to 10, 2024. When the Games ended, there were five medals secured by the Vincentians. Taking gold were Krista Bynoe and Jason Williams. Bynoe copped gold in the Aquathlon, comprising a 750m swim and run, along with a 200m run.
Williams’ top place came in the Open Water 750m Swim.
Bynoe also took silver in the Open Water Swim; as also did the pair of Roshorn Payne and Daural Payne in the Bocce Doubles.
Roshorn Payne copped a bronze in the Bocce Singles, along with the Football team, to round up the five medal haul for St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Special Olympians. A team of 18, comprising 12 athletes, 4 coaches, 1 family member, and the National Director/Head of Delegation, participated in the inaugural Special Olympics Caribbean Initiative Regional Beach Games. The team competed in Bocce, Football, and Open-water swimming.
The Games is the brainchild of former Trinidad and Tobago Special Olympics athlete now Manager of Sports and Training at Special Olympics International, Kester Edwards . Reports are that the Beach Games will be held biennially, in a different Caribbean country each time.
