National Karate Championship serves up new talents

After two days of intense rivalry at the auditorium of the West St George Secondary School, on Saturday November 2 and Sunday November, 3, 2024, the Hairouna Karate Federation (HKF) is in a stronger position following the hosting of its National Karate Championships.

Winners in the Kumite Male 9-11, Mwanza Hypolite (center), flanked by Xonte O’ Brien (l) and Aiden John(r).

Three clubs- Seishin Karate Club; Dragon-Ryu Karate; and the SVG IKD Shotokan Karate Club sought honours in the Kata and Kumite events.

The gold medal count showed Seishin Karate Club earning 7 gold; Dragon Ryu, 5; and SVG IKD Shotokan Karate Club, 1.

Seishin also had 4 silver and 1 bronze; Dragon Ryu, 9 silver and 10 bronze; with SVG IKD Shotokan Karate Club, 1 bronze, to complement their golds.

Rishaud Roache won both the Kumite Male 16-19 and 20 and Over

Seishin’s gold medallists came mainly in the Kata event, with Nathalia Greaves copping the 6-8 Mixed. Ari Da Silva won the Female 9-11 age group. Liam Bollers topped the Male 9-11. Amiyah Bascombe won in the Female 12- 15; Aaron Mc Donald, the Male 12 -15; and Christian Joseph, the Male 16 -19.

Bascombe completed her double take also winning the Kumite gold.

Dragon Ryu Karate’s gold medals all came in the Kumite. Topping that club’s output was Rishaud Roache who won the Male 16-19 and 20 and Over. Kalilah Williams won the Female 9-11; Mwanza Hypolite the Male 9-11; and Rishawn Roache, the 12-15 age group, Isaiah Caesar of the SVG IKD Shotokan Karate Club won gold in the Male 20 and Over Kata.
