OECS Swim Championships return to SVG

Hundreds of swimmers from the sub-region will swarm the Shrewsbury Aquatic Centre from November 8 to 10, 2024, as the St Vincent and the Grenadines Swimming Federation (SVGSF),hosts the 32nd edition of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean (OECS) Swim Championships.

The championships are scheduled to begin promptly from 10: 00 a.m on Friday, November, 8, with the afternoon session commencing at 5: 00 p.m.

On Saturday, November 9, swimmers will hit the pool from 10:00 a.m, with the formal opening ceremony carded to take place in the afternoon.

Action on the final day, November 10, will get going at 10:00 a.m.

At stake are the individual age group titles, as well as the Boys and Girls championships, and the overall winners.

The age groups to be contested are 8 and Under; 9-10; 11-12; 13-14; 15-17; and 18 and over.

Among the events set for day one, are the Freestyle 100m and 400m; along with the 25m, 50m and 100m Breaststroke and Backstroke.

On Saturday, there are the 200m Medley Relay for 10 and Under, as well as the 11- 14, and 15 and over.

Also on Saturday, are the 200m Freestyle; the 50m Breaststroke; as well as the 25m, 50m, 100m Butterfly; the 50 Freestyle; and the 200m Mixed Relay.

The 50m Backstroke and Butterfly; the 100m, 200m Individual Medley; along with the 25m and 100m Freestyle; and the 10 and 4 x 50 Freestyle Relays, conclude the three days of championships.

All eyes will be on the ever- improving host team, which produced their best performance last year when the championships were held in Saint Lucia. Then, St Vincent and the Grenadines finished third overall, as Antigua and Barbuda and Grenada were level on points. In 2023, the Vincentians copped 92 individual medals comprising 29 gold, 33 silver and 30 bronze.

There were 2 relay gold medals, 6 silver, and 3 bronze.

This is the third occasion that St Vincent and the Grenadines is hosting the OECS Championships; the first was back in 2016.
