National Karate Championships on this weekend
Local karatekas will this weekend, Saturday November 2 and 3, 2024, pit their skills at the West St George Secondary School Auditorium, when the Hairouna Karate Federation (HKF) convenes it National Championships.
Over the two day period, the karatekas will compete in the Kata and Kumite events throughout the various age groups: Under-10; Under-14; Cadet; Juniors; Under-21; and seniors.
Action gets going on Saturday from 11:00 a.m, ending at 4:00 p.m, while on Sunday, the schedule is from 1:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m.
Vice President of the HKF, Adrian Shallow said his organization is anticipating a high quality Karate championships, as the sport is seeing a resurgence in interest.
“We will have athletes from age 6 to 20 participating in the championships from the three clubs- Seishin Karate Club; SVG IKD Shotokan Karate Club; and Dragon Ryu Karate Club.
Shallow noted that the renewed enthusiasm is also being manifested by Bequia who express interest in being a part of the championships after a lull in the sport on that Grenadine island, but choose to defer to next years staging of the event.
