Jayden George is Squash Player of the Year
Jayden George walked away with the top award of Squash Player of the Year, when the St Vincent and the Grenadines Squash Association (SVGSA) twinned its observance of World Squash Day, and the 2024 national independence celebrations.
The SVGSA thus made its input to the World Squash Day, 2024, which was officially observed on October 12, by engaging in a recognition ceremony last Saturday, October 26, 2024 at the National Squash Centre, Paul’s Avenue.
George highlighted the brief event as he shone through during the period 2023-2024, retaining the Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Under-15 title.
That retention meant George was winning his fourth successive Junior CASA accolade. He won the Under-11 title in 2019 and claimed the Under-13, in 2022. No competition was held in 2020 and 2021, because of the coronavirus pandemic.
But the George household did not stop there, as his elder sister, Ciara, won the award for her exemplary Sportsmanship.
Joining them were Nadira Morgan, who was identified and rewarded for her leadership qualities; while Chloe Samuel was recognised for her determination; and Aiden DeFreitas for his incremental improvement.
Meanwhile, Jules Snagg received the Coach of the Year Award; and Roy DeFreitas copped the Masters award, for his consistency.
President of the SVGSA, Amber Glasgow saw the recognition of the players and coach, as part of her organization’s drive to inspire the next generation of Squash members.
“Our goal is not only to instil our strengths in those we guide, but also to inspire them to surpass those standards,” Glascow proffered at last Saturday’s double celebration.
But the day was not all about the awards as parents and children got a chance to play a game of Squash and be entertained by local music.
The day’s activities saw Tus-T water and The Patio contributing significantly to its realization.
