Three selected for Caribbean Dinghy Championships
Three young sailors, Scarlett Hadley, Kai Marks-Dasent, and Logan Banfield, will represent St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG)at the Caribbean Dinghy Championships set for Simpson Bay, St Maarten, from tomorrow, Friday, October 25 to Sunday, October 27, 2024.
This is the first time that St Vincent and the Grenadines will be competing, and the young sailors are hoping to make a mark at the Championships.
The Vincentian trio are among 46 sailors from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guadeloupe, St Kitts and Nevis, St Martin, Trinidad and Tobago and host, St Maarten.
Accordingly, Hadley, Marks- Dasent and Banfield, in preparation for the St Maarten outing, have been exposed to some world class coaching from Rob Holden, who has been working with the St Vincent and the Grenadines Sailing Association (SVGSA) since 2021.
Apart from working in the water, the tree sailors have also engaged in strength and conditioning with personal trainer, Swooshbomb Fitness, and have the benefit of sports psychology training and mental coaching from Sorenya Miller.
Financial support for the trip has come from the Mustique Company, as well as funds raised by a sailing raffle, the St Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee, and parental contributions.
