Sean Stanley takes silver in Masters TT Championships
Vincentian, Sean Stanley had to settle for the runner up spot in the finals of the Commonwealth Masters Championships, ages 55 plus category, at the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium in Barbados, last Sunday, October 20, 2024.
Stanley who breezed through the preliminary round, was beaten 3-1 by Englishman, David Griffith- 11/4, 11/4, 4/11, 11/3.
Stanley also teamed up with Griffith to take bronze in the doubles.
Ironically, Griffith was one of Stanley’s casualties in the preliminary round, when he won 3-0.
When the two met in the preliminaries, Stanley trumped 11/5, 11/8, 13/10. Also, leading up to the title match, Stanley defeated Grenadian, Anthony Forsyth- 11/6 ,11/5, 11/7.
Three Barbadians were also among Stanley’s casualties, as he whipped Frederick Powlette, 11/3, 11/2, 11/3;
Courtney Springer, 11/6, 13/11, 10/12, 11/8, and Wayne Branch, 11/5, 11/7, 11/8.
A former OECS Singles champion and with almost 20 national titles to his name, Stanley rates his latest accolade as the “best accomplishment”, of his Table Tennis career that spans over four decades.
Stanley is the founder of the 18 year old Sean Stanley Table Tennis Academy, is an ITTF certified coach, as he holds a Diploma from the Hungarian University of Physical Education and Sports.
