Windward run starts road race series

THE FIRST OF three road races, dubbed the “Supreme Bleach 10k Series” were run off on the Windward end of mainland, St Vincent.

As part of Team Athletics SVG’s Road Racing Calendar, the series got going last Sunday, October 13, 2024, in Georgetown.

The race which attracted 40 participants, was held in the Caratal area, with runners making loops from the Caratal Bridge via interior roads in Georgetown, and back to the bridge.

As such, the Under-16 competitors did three loops; the Under-20s four, and the Open category competitors did five.When the clocked stopped, the top three places in each category, were rewarded with cash prizes, as well as products compliments Log Enterprises.

Taking the female segment of the Under-16 age group was Kesian John in 29:30.19. Second was Ayah Stapleton in 29:30.97, and Afiyah Thomas, third in 29:31.66.

John thus collected $ 200, Stapleton $150, and Thomas, $100.

It was the same distribution among the Under-16 males, as Kenneth Gurley won in 22:32. 26, ahead of Rohan Lett, second, in 23:54.09, and Verrol Thomas, who clocked 23:54.62, to take the third spot.

There was a solitary entrant in the Female Under age group in Moesha Richards who won in a time of 46:31.46, to earn herself a cool $300 for her Sunday afternoon efforts.

Among the Under-20 males, Bresph Frederick led the field in 30:31: 13. He was followed by Omario John, with a 30:23.53 clocking, and Israel Cumberbatch placed third in 31:29.17. Frederick got $300, John $ 200, and Cumberbatch $150.

In the Open female category, the winner was Linda Mc Dowall in 45:49.46, with the second place taken by Soreyna Miller, in 57:57.89, as they pocketed $500 and $300, respectively.

Among the males, Alroy Barbour took away the $500 prize. He led from the start to win in 38:34.07, ahead of Lawrence Arthur in 40:04.14, and Jeremy Phillips in 40: 12.99. Lawrence’s win earned him $300, and Phillips got $200.

Athletes will be in it again this Sunday, October 20, 2024 as they challenge themselves in the Sion Hill run.

The series culminates on November 17, 2024 in North Leeward.

The 2024 Road Racing calendar of Team Athletics SVG, began on September 22, 2024 with the staging of the Round- D-Town Road Relay.
