Youths trump yacht pros in Sailing event
September, 27, 2024 proved a day of rejoicing for some of the youthful sailing talent of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG),when youth clipped experience.
The day saw the young sailors, under the ambit of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Sailing Association (SVGSA), taking on professional yacht skippers from Tradewinds Yacht Charters in the ILCA 6 class.
At the end of the day’s competition, held at the Blue Lagoon Marina, it was youth upending experience.
In a release, SVGSA Performance Manager, Sabrina Marks- Dasent, expressing delight in the performance of the local sailors, said, “It not only tested their skills but also introduced them to the broader opportunities of pursuing a career in Sailing”.
The Base Manager at Tradewinds, Johan Nel reflected: “Our crew had a fantastic time…while they started a bit rusty, they managed to deliver some competitive performances…”.
“Tradewinds is a socially conscious organisation, and we value the chance to build relationships with
these young sailors. We hope to show them more about the charter industry and the career paths available, but we also look forward to reclaiming victory in the next challenge,” the release also quoted Nel as saying.
Tradewinds Yacht Charters is an all-inclusive luxury catamaran charters, that recently relocated their base of operations to Blue Lagoon Marina following the passage of Hurricane Beryl, which impacted their previous base in the Grenadines.
