Technical Director of Team Athletics SVG and certified Track and Field Coach, Chester Morgan is spearheading the implementation of a Kids Athletics Programme in the Bahamas. Morgan, thus, will oversee a six week execution of a national primary schools Kids Athletics programme in that country, set for October 14 to November 18, 2024.
Excited about framing the programme, and accepted by the Ministry of Education in the Bahamas, Morgan disclosed that it will engage 32 public schools and 20 private schools.
As a prelude to the programme, Morgan was the facilitator of a three day Train the Trainers Workshop in the Bahamas, in which 27 coaches were trained, from September 29 to October 1, 2024.
“What happens now, is that the trainers are going to execute the six weeks programme, to be followed by a competition on November 23, which will constitute Phase Two.”
In underlining the seriousness of the programme that the Ministry of Education has mandated, Morgan said that on October 24, 2024, Physical Education teachers will attend a workshop in zones.
“This shows the seriousness of these people respective to Physical Education and sports, unlike us here in St Vincent and the Grenadines,” Morgan commented.
Holding out hope, Morgan would like to see to the same passion and policies implemented here in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), relative to engendering a sports culture, starting with the nation’s school system.
Prior to his travel to the Bahamas, Morgan, and National Coordinator for Kids Athletics of Team Athletics SVG, Kellisha Ashton-Yorke, were the facilitators of a three-day Train the Trainers workshop, from August 18 to 20, here in SVG which drew participation from Aruba, the Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago and host country St Vincent and the Grenadines.
