Greiggs uproots Spring Village to win NEFL Village title

Greiggs Football Club and their band of supporters left the Chili Playing Field in a festive mood last Sunday, September 29, 2024, taking with them the North East Football League (NEFL) Village title.

All Greiggs needed was a single strike from their talisman- Zidane Sam, to lift the top prize, and silence the defending champions, Spring Village.

A missed penalty by Iruel Matthias late in the second half compounded Spring Village’s misery and they had to resort to second place.

For his heroics in thwarting Matthais’ penalty and other saves, Greiggs custodian, Anthony Hazell, was adjudged Player of the Final.

Meanwhile, Sam was named at the competition’s Best Striker.

Joining Hazell and Sam in collecting individual awards were Overland’s Terris Joseph, who pouched

the Best Midfielder award; with the Spring Village trio of Jermaine Jarvis, Iruel Matthias and Desroy

Adams, declared as Best Goal Keeper, Best Defender and Best Manager, respectively.

Byera Village, for the second year in succession, copped the coveted award of Most Disciplined Team.

And, Greiggs, Spring Village, as well as third place- Overland, in addition to their cash awards, received trophies in accordance with their placings.
