Federation has plans to take Football to the pre-schools
The Otashie Spring, led executive of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF), intends to introduce the sport from as early as to pre-schools.
Spring broke the welcoming news as he addressed cohorts two and three of the Applied Associates Sports Sciences Programme of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, as they received their D licence certification, during a ceremony at the Students Union Hall at the Villa Campus.
“We looking at having Football initiative at the pre- school level… We are looking at having Football at the primary school level, and what we want are prospects who have what it takes to deliver, prospect who have what it takes to teach the people what they want them to learn,” Spring pronounced. At present, administrators of some pre-schools engage private Football coaches to teach students the sport. Thus, the proposed initiative of the national Football body, once put in train, can see the SVGFF taking charge of the sport at most levels.
However, to deliver such a product the need for more coaches is paramount, hence, Spring urged the SVGCC students to be part of the new thrust.
“We want to encourage you guys not to stay there, get involved, join a club, get involved with the leagues, get involved with respect of the national programmes”, Spring urged.
He further pointed out to the students that they are entering a new sphere which can propel them, even into gainful employment.
“We want to ensure that we have the environment that is …going to provide you with the necessary practical experience to which you can be rewarded as well.”
