ECCB OECS Netball champs SVG also declared best shooting team
St. Vincent and the Grenadines won the Gloria Ballantyne Trophy, the symbol of female netball supremacy in the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), winning all of their matches in the 2024 ECCB International Netball Series, played in Saint Lucia from September 21 – 30, 2024.
The Vincentians played unbeaten throughout defeating Dominica 71 – 32; Anguilla 87 – 8; Antigua and Barbuda 68 – 37; Saint Lucia 56 – 45; Montserrat 101 – 16; Cayman Islands 56 – 41; and Grenada 59 – 50. Additionally, St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Vincy Jewels, also was adjudged the Best Shooting Team having scored 498 goals of 586 attempts, ending with a shooting accuracy of 88.80 percent.
Two of their shooters were among the top ten in the tournament.
Number one on the list is goal-shoot, Maryann Frederick, who received the Most Accurate Shooter Award. She had 401 attempts, and netted 392 goals, coming away with a shooting accuracy of 92.77 percent.
Number nine on the list is goal-attack Kristiana Christopher who shot 112 attempts, scored 92 goals, having a 82.14 per cent accuracy rate.
Substitute goal-shoot, Jamarah Coombs, placed number 25 on the list, having had 32 attempts and scored 24 goals, ending with a shooting accuracy of 75 per cent.
Both Grenada and Saint Lucia finished the tournament on 10 points each, but Grenada placed second due to a better goal difference of 193, compared to Saint Lucia’s goal difference of 164. Grenada also won the Best Defending Team award having the least number of goals scored against them, 229; and least attempts against, 313.
