New champions emerge in Round D Town Road Relay
New winners were installed when Team Athletics SVG hosted its Round D Town Road Relay, last Sunday, September 22, 2024.
Taking the Female category among the Primary Schools was the Fitz Hughes Team One in 35:28.92; with the Chateaubelair Methodist placing second in 37:03.02; and, with a 37:59.30 clocking, Fitz Hughes Government Team Two placed third.
In the Male category of the Primary Schools, Chateaubelair Methodist won in 28:43.12, ahead of the Troumaca Government School in 29:51.79; and Tourama Government took the third spot in 32:05.31.
Meanwhile, the Girls’ High School was crowned the new female winners among the secondary schools. The GHS quartet registered the fastest time – 43:54.80. Barrouallie Secondary followed in second position in a time of 45:00.21; with Georgetown Secondary third in 45:23.41.
Likewise, the Georgetown Secondary copped the Male segment, stopping the clock at 31:03.66. With a clocking of 31:48.34, was the Barrouallie Secondary in second place; and third was the St. Vincent Grammar School in 32:12.81.
Copping the Open Female category was the IT DAT Academy in 36:35.78. High Performance had to settle for second in a time of 38:43.57; with the X- Ceed Sports Club third, in 49:44.77.
And the X- Cel Track Club copped the Open Male title, registering a winning run of 30:49.21. Mustangs Track Club placed second in 30:49.50; and Chatoyer finished third in 31:21.81.
When the Round D Town Road Relay was held in 2023, Chateaubelair Methodist won the female segment and Fitz Hughes Government, the male, in the Primary Schools Division.
The Troumaca Ontario won both genders in the Secondary Schools Division, with High Performance and Chatoyer, taking the female and male categories, respectively in the Open Division.
The three top teams in each segment received cash awards.
Last Sunday’s four leg relay, saw all legs starting at the cross walk at the Bank of St Vincent and the Grenadines (BOSVG) on Halifax Street.
In the case of the primary schools, they headed up to the old Ju-c building on James Street, before taking a right turn down to KFC. They kept along Bay Street, down to the Kingstown Anglican School, then turning right towards the Methodist Church, and right on Back Street to end at the start line.
Meanwhile, the Secondary Schools and Open Categories, after leading off, proceeded to Sharpe Street onto Bay Street. From there, they made a right at the former Maji-Klean building, located on Linley Street. They then went right towards Finishing and Furnishing, then right again on to Back Street, back to the start line.
The 18 teams that registered in the primary schools’ division, all completed the race, while 17 of the 20 in the secondary category did so.
And, in the Open Division, all but one of the 13 teams stayed the course of the race.
Attention in the road racing calendar for 2024 will shift to the Log Enterprises Supreme Bleach 10-K Series. Two of the 10-ks take place in October, with the culmination set for November.
