Shanecia Delpesche off to UTT on Table Tennis Scholarship
St Vincent and the Grenadines’ current number one female Table Tennis player, Shanecia Delplesche, is pursuing a certificate in Sports Science at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT).
This, after she was granted a full one year scholarship to the institution.
Delpesche, who left for Trinidad and Tobago on September 13, 2024, was identified as talent worthy of being honed by Aleen Edwards of the two- island republic.
Edwards conducted a high performance one week training in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) in 2023. He is a lecturer at the UTT, and an International Table Tennis Federation Course Conductor, and thus recommended Delpesche.
A former Troumaca-Ontario Secondary School student, Delpesche gained her skills in the sport, thanks to Leighton Adams, her coach.
Delpesche is a member of the Adams Table Tennis Club, based in her home community of Troumaca.
She has represented St Vincent and the Grenadines in Grenada at the LQ Invitational, winning the Under-19 title in 2023, and was a silver medallist in the women’s singles and bronze medallist in the mixed doubles at the OECS Championships, also last year.
A former multiple National Junior champion as well, Delpesche’s highest level of national representation was her participation at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
