Blue Marlins sweep titles in National Swimming Championships
Blue Marlins Swim Club dethroned Black Sands Swim Squad as national swimming champions at the 2024 SVG Gallagher National Invitational Swimming Championships that concluded Sunday, September 15,2024 at the Shrewsbury Aquatic Centre, Ratho Mill.
Blue Marlins tallied 1410 points to 1128 points gained by Black Sands Swim Squad (BSSS). Sailfish of Grenada and unattached swimmers completed the participating units. The individual age group champions saw Blue Marlins copping eight of the individual age group titles. Blue Marlins won the Girls 8 and Under, through Saige Jobe; the Boys 8 and Under was won by Zane Dabriel; the Girls 9 -10 by Skylar Byron. Saj Caesar won the Boys 9-10; the Girls 11-12 was won by Belle Adams; the Boys 11-12 by Jadon Hamilton; the Girls 13- 14 by Tayeah St Hilaire, and Boys 13-14 by Hazen Dabriel.
Black Sands Swim Squad took the other two. Kennice Greene won the Girls 15 and Over, and Matthew Ballah won the Boys 15 and Over.
In the Sprint Challenge segment, Ira Hadley, representing BSSS won the Girls 8 and Under category, with Xid Toney of Blue Marlins, winning the Boys.
Belle Adams of Blue Marlins took the Girls 9-12; and Kione De Shong of Black Sands won the Boys 9-12 in the Sprint Challenge.
Kennice Greene and Matthew Ballah became double winners, as they were the Sprint Challenge winners in the 13 and Over segments.
The championships , which commenced on September 12, 2024, served as a benchmark for selection to the upcoming OECS Swim Championships.
The Shrewsbury Aquatic Centre is the venue for the 2024 sub- regional championships, scheduled for November 10-12.
