Athletes all set for Round D Town Road Relay this Sunday

The 2024 Road Racing calendar of Team Athletics SVG runs off this Sunday, September 22.

Getting the programme started is the four leg Round D Town Relay.

However, before the main event, there will be some fun activities as Team Athletics SVG and Vincy Moves have collaborated to get as many people as possible involved in traditional games as well as run/ walk races.

Planned to start from 1: 30 p.m, are skipping, moral, hop scotch and hoola hoops among other games.

According to a media release from Team Athletics SVG, “There will also be some fun events geared at spectator participation in the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Awareness run, which includes a 50 and 80m walk/run,100m sprints, and 4x50m relays for families, celebrities, influencers and special guests”.

Following these activities, schools, clubs and other groupings will get the business of the Round D Town Road Relay going.

As stated by Team Athletics SVG, each leg of the primary schools category will be one km.

They will start at the crossing at the BOSVG on Halifax Street, head up to the old Ju-c building on James Street, taking a right turn down to KFC. They will keep on Bay Street, down to the Kingstown Anglican School, then turn right towards the Methodist Church and turn right on Back St back to end at the start line.

In the case of the Secondary Schools and Open Categories, they too will start on Halifax Street then proceed to Sharpe Street and onto Bay Street. From there, they make a right turn at the former Maji-Klean building, located at Linley Street. They will then go right towards Finishing and Furnishing then turn right onto Back Street also finishing at the starting line.

When the Round D Town Road Relay was held in 2023, the Chateaubelair Methodist School team won the female segment and the Fitz Hughes Government won the male in the Primary Schools Division.

The Troumaca Ontario won both genders in the Secondary Schools Division, with High Performance, and Chatoyer, taking the female and male categories, respectively in the Open Division.
