National footballers told to look to the future
Members of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Senior Men’s team, commonly referred to as Vincy Heat, have been told to look into themselves, relative to their social interaction.
The words of advice, came from Prime Minister, Ralph Gonsalves, as he addressed the team on September 9, 2024, at the VIP lounge at the Argyle International Airport on their return from Bonaire having competed successfully in two Concacaf Nations League matches.
“Some of you will probably have to look inside of yourselves and see some friends whom you have may not be really good for you while you are on your path for professional Football,” Gonsalves told the 24 attentive players.
“They may be good for you in other circumstances, but you have to make these decisions and you have to focus”.
Calling on them to stay clear of any mal intentions and associations, Gonsalves added, “The pulling and tugging is just vanity and this person trying to climb on another one for status and a personal agenda”.
He called on the footballers to think beyond the sport and the now, as they have a future ahead of them besides Football.
“We have to go past all of those things, look at the welfare of footballers, and particularly your own welfare as footballers and as human beings- as young men.”
Vincy Heat returned home to a warm welcome from their overseas encounters in which they drew 1-1 with the host, Bonaire, and defeated Montserrat, 2-0, in Group A of League B, in the Concacaf Nations League.
