Young Football official buoyed by CFU experience
VINCENTIAN ASSISTANT Referee, Jazini Kydd, is raring to go further having got his first taste at officiating on the regional scene.
Kydd was part of a development team of prospective referees and referees assistants at the Caribbean Football Union’s Boys Under-14 Challenge Series in Trinidad and Tobago from August 16 to 25, 2024.
During that event, Kydd was able to officiate in tier two matches, and was part of the team that oversaw the tier one final.
Reflecting on his outing, Kydd said he cherished the occasions as he got to learn a lot from others.
“It was a really, really good experience… I can say that I am a better assistant referee now, and this has given me more energy to go on further.”
The 21 year old who hails from the community of Redemption Sharpes in Central Kingstown, credits Fitz Gerald King aka John Hinds, along with Mahalia Thomas and Leevan Victory, for the encouragement to become an assistant referee.
“They are the ones who first told me that I have the basics right and made me joined the Association (SVG Referees), where I get practice at the sessions and in some local matches”, Kydd explained.
His ambitions are to first get certified as a FIFA Assistant Referee, and up the rungs to the highest possible stage.
“I plan to work harder, do my physicals, read up, look at videos so that when I get to age 23, I will be ready to look for my FIFA badge”, Kydd mapped out.
According to FIFA stipulation, 23 years is the minimum age to become an assistant referee, and 25 years the minimum for referees.
