Moeth Gaymes gains International Netball Umpire status

Moeth Gaymes has become this country’s first International Netball Umpire, and he is elated with the recent conferment.

The news broke on Thursday, September 5, 2024, of Gaymes’ elevation by World Netball to International Umpire Awardee (IUA) status.

I am elated to say the least, but I was aware that it was coming, because I went to the Paradise Cup,  a three-match series 11th ranked, Northern Ireland, and 15th ranked Barbados in Barbados, from August 24th to the 27th in Barbados, and two of the matches were screening matches and the final match was my testing and from my performance, I knew that I was successful”, the sporting official told SEARCHLIGHT.

He revealed that it was also his dream to become the first Vincentian International Netball Umpire.

“I want to thank God for the blessings to live this dream… After years of knowing that our furthest achievement in the field was Advanced Umpires, I pledged to myself that I will become SVG’s first International Umpire in this sport.”

Gaymes, who first tasted regional Netball umpiring in 2008, at the then ECCB /OECS Under-23 Tournament, was granted the status of International Talent Identification (ITID), in January, 2023, which was set to expire in 2027.

But Gaymes broke the glass ceiling and received his IAU in just over one and a half years.

Citing personal evaluation and responding to feedback, Gaymes believed those were the fulcrum of his success.

“One of the greatest attributes was the fact that after every match on the regional scene, when I got my feedback and/or tournament report, I’ll quickly choose an area or two to work on to ensure

improvements in such area… With hard work and dedication, I’m proud today to be living this dream, Gaymes related.

Despite his new Netball Umpires’ status, Gaymes plans to train more and better his craft.

His IUA status will remain valid for four years after another testing for reappointment.

The IUA status, is the second international officiating credentials for Gaymes; he is also FIFA accredited Referee.
