New champions crowned in Richland Park Netball
3 J’s Valley Strikers took the Junior title, and National Properties Netters, the Senior Division title in the just-concluded 2024 Island Sipz Richland Park Netball Competition.
They were crowned as new champions last Sunday, August 25, when the tournament came to a close at the Hard Court of the Richland Park Government School.
The Junior Division final though, stole the spotlight, as 3 J’s Valley Strikers came from a 15-19 deficit versus Conquerors at the start of the last quarter. A surge saw Valley Strikers levelling the match at 22 -22, sending it into extra time. Spurred on by a section of the crowd, Valley Strikers put the contest beyond Conquerors’ grasp, winning 36-24.
Meanwhile, Netters who ended bottom of the teams in the preliminary round, stormed back to upstage the defending champions, High Performance, 56-46, as the next generation of national senior netballers gave a sneak peek of their future prowess.
Before Sunday’s finals, the third places were determined on Saturday, with Success Netters One, defeating Paragon Netball Academy, 23-15 in the Junior Division, and High Park United winning by default over TCCU Star Girls, in what was intended to be a showdown of former champions.
As such, 3J’s Valley Strikers earned $1,500 sponsored by GECCU; Conquerors- $800, and Success Netters One- $500, donated by GJs Auto Import.
Island Sipz sponsored the first place in the Senior Division, so Netters collected $2500. Second place and dethroned champions, High Performance, received $1,500, and High Park United, $800, part sponsored by Senator Shackell Bobb.
