SVGFF and West Rouge strengthening relationship
THE EXECUTIVE OF The St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF), and the West Rouge Soccer Club of Canada, continue to strengthen their relationships forged five years ago, when the club first visited St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
The Canadian club was on a two match tour of the country, facing their St Vincent and the Grenadines Under-20 counterparts on August 7 and 10.
On both occasions West Rouge came away winners. In match one played at the Brighton Playing Field, West Rouge trumped 2-1. Julia Babic and Cynthia Romo scored for West Rouge, and Nasheeka Prescott for the SVG Under- 20s.
Then on August 10, 2024, at the Chili Playing Field, Georgetown, a single strike from Rayna Bhanji, settled the encounter in favour of West Rouge.
Chair of the Women’s Committee of the SVGFF, Yoland London told SEARCHLIGHT that her organization is pleased with the opportunity for the local young ladies to get a taste of competitive football, albeit friendly matches.
“As a committee, we are proud of the fact that our young ladies can get some level of football against a visiting team… This augurs well as we plan for regional and international competitions in 2025,” London said.
She added, “Whilst results matter, our players were competitive against their opponents, and the scorelines reflect this, so the matches served the technical staff of the team in good stead going forward”.
“In the case of the West Rouge team, they were able to sample some of the Vincentian culture, inclusive of cuisine and visit places of interests,” London related.
West Rouge is coached by Vincentian – born Mark Liverpool, who is originally from Georgetown.
In addition, the Canadian team boasts player of Caribbean heritage, Liverpool’s daughter being one of them.
