Richland Park Netball on the move
WHEN THE 2024 Marriaqua Sports Committee, Richland Park Netball Competition officially commenced last Sunday, July 21, at the Richland Park Government School hard court, there was an increase in teams in the Junior Division.
Eight outfits are registered in the Junior Division for this year’s competition, three more than in 2023.
However, this is not the case with the Senior Division which has four teams, one fewer than in 2023.
Competing for honours in the Junior Division are G & J Auto Imports Stars; 3 J’s Valley Strikers; Valley Youths; Success Netters One;Youth Blazers; JLC Warriors; Conquerors; and Paragon Netball Academy.
Making up the Senior Division are High Park United;TCCU Star Girls; High Performance Vultures; and Success Netters Two.
Already, G & J Auto Imports Stars has one accolade, as they were adjudged the best dressed team at the parade of teams. They are in line for a prize, compliments Josette Fisher- Francis, a past net player.
Last Sunday’s opening ceremony heard addresses from President of the Marriaqua Sports Committee, Geshell Peters, Parliamentary Representative for Marriaqua, St Clair Prince, as well as Public Relations Officer of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association, Sean Frederick, and Minister with responsibility for sport, Orando Brewster.
Prince in welcoming Brewster to his new undertaking, urged the new Sports Minister to assist in providing “ more lights” at the facility.
The matter of inadequate lighting has been one of Prince’s concerns whenever he addressed Netball functions at the venue.
Despite the drawback, the 12 teams that show a wide geographic spread, will be looking to be in the limelight when the competition closes off in the six weeks, barring unforeseen occurrences.
JLC Warriors won the 2023 Junior Division title, with High Performance Vultures, taking the Senior Division.
