We performed creditably, says Squash coach

Amber Glasgow, one of two coaches of the St Vincent and the Grenadines team to the Junior 2024 Caribbean Area Squash Association(CASA) Championships, held in Tortola, British Virgin Islands from June 30 to July 6, is pleased with the efforts of her charges.

Sporting a team of 12, St Vincent and the Grenadines finished sixth overall; sixth in the Boys division and same placing for the Girls. However, Jayden George won the Boys Under-15; Jaydon Williams was second in the Boys Under-17, while the two kept hold of the bronze in the doubles.

Other notable efforts were Caeli George’s third place in the Girls Under-15; Savante Padmore’s  champing of the Boys Under-11 consolation; and Nadira Morgan’s runner-up in the Girls Under-19 consolation.

“ I am proud of the team’s performance. St Vincent and the Grenadines stood out as the team to  watch in future championships, which shows that we are doing something right here”, Glasgow told SEARCHLIGHT. Glasgow, who is also the president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Squash Association, is confident that the team’s performance in Tortola was as a result of the five year plan that her executive put in train in 2023.

“ I am confident that we are on the right pathway… I can say without any contradiction that our plans are already bearing fruit which are good signs for posterity for the sport,” Glasgow assessed.

She noted that her team of coaches will continue to develop the young squash talents, as “our players are gaining a lot of respect from others in the region”.

“ Last year we placed seventh, this year we went one up and finished sixth, so we are making small progress both individually and collectively,” Glasgow commented.

A forward- looking Glasgow sees only upward mobility for Squash here in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

“ We continue to make strides and, hopefully, the powers will see it fit to invest in a state-of- the- art indoor facility for Squash, as the economic benefits to the country that cannot be counted.”
