SVGSA sends 2 to World Youth Championships
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Sailing Association (SVGSA), continues to lay down markers as the organisation sends two promising sailors to the Youth Sailing World Championships in Lake Garda, Italy which runs from June 13, to 20, 2024.
Debutant at the international Sailing, Isaiah Blackette, joins the relatively experienced Scarlett Hadley at the Championships.
The Vincentian duo will be among 1600 sailors from over 75 countries who will be competing in the event.
As part of their preparations for Italy, Blackette and Hadley, along with sailors from Trinidad and Tobago and Grenada, were engaged in one week of intense training under the guidance of World Sailing Coach Rob Holden.
During that week, Holden helped sharpen the sailors’ skills to help them face new frontiers.
“We focused on breaking things down, manoeuvrers and develop exercises along that line,” Holden told SEARCHLIGHT.
He said although the participants were not used to the twice per day intense training, they showed grit and purpose to get the job done.
Holden explained that he came to St Vincent and the Grenadines to prepare the two Vincentians as it was prudent that they receive some competition, hence the inclusion of the overseas sailors and some other local participants.
