Jayden George attains Junior CASA beaver trick

Flip the calendar to another year, change the host venue, and advance the age group- the results are the same for Vincentian, Jayden George, whenever he competes at the Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association Championships.

George achieved his fourth straight CASA title, when he retained the Boys Under-15 crown last Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at the Tortola Sport Club in the British Virgin Islands.

George, after receiving a first- round bye, defeated fellow Vincentian, Aiden De Freitas, 11-2, 11-3, 11-1.

He then overcame Ben Shepherd of Barbados, 11-6, 11-0, 11-6, to set up grandstand finish with Daniel Sealey of Barbados.

George made another exclamation mark, when he champed Shepherd 11-6, 11-4, 6-11, 11-9 in 29 minutes, to take the CASA title.

In 2019,when the championships were staged in Trinidad and Tobago, George won the Under-11 title to start things off. With no championships in 2020 and 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic, George touched down in 2023 in Guyana and scalped the Under-13 title.

On his home patch in 2023, George laid hands on the Under-15 to complete the hat-trick.

By completing the four straight titles, George equals the male Junior CASA record set by Richard Chin of Guyana, who took the Under-14 Boys title in 1981, 1982 and 1983, as well as the Under-16 in 1984.

However,Nathalie Webber of Barbados, and Cathryn Tyler of the Cayman Island hold the overall

Junior CASA record, as they have won five on the trot.

Webber took the Girls Under-14 in 1981 and 1982; the Under-16 in 1983; and the Under-19 in 1984 and 1986. There were no championships in 1985.

In the case of Tyler, she champed the Under-16 titles in 1986, 1987, and 1988 and in 1989, won the

Under-19. With no championships held in 1990, Tyler continued her march to win the Under-19 in 1991.

Vincentian, Jaydon Williams, who was seeded number one in the Boys Under-17 age group, had to settle for silver.

Williams was beaten by Daniel Henderson of the British Virgin Islands 9-11, 11-9, 11-5, 6-11, 12-14, in a marathon encounter that lasted 56 minutes.

By completing the four straight titles, George equaled  the male Junior CASA record set by Guyanese Richard Chin and Barbadian- Bryant Cumberbatch.

Chin  took the Under-14 Boys title in 1981, 1982 and 1983, as well as the Under-16 in 1984, while Cumberbatch won the Under- 13 in 2000 and 2001 and the Under-15 in 2002 and 2003.
