Olympics bound swimmers continue preparations

The two Vincentian swimmers who have been nominated for this year’s Summer Olympic Games, in Paris, France, Kennice Greene and Alexander Joachim, are continuing their preparations, as they embark on their most prestigious outing.

As part of their journey to France, Greene and Joachim contested the 52nd Bahamas National Swimming Championships staged from June 20 to 23, 2024, at the Betty Kelly Kenning Aquatic Centre.

Both acquitted themselves well, with Greene reaching the final in the 15-17 Females 50m Backstroke; the 50m Freestyle; as well as the 50m and 100m Butterfly, while Joachim did so in the 18 and Over Male 50m Backstroke; the 100m Butterfly; the 50m Freestyle; and the 100m Breaststroke.

Greene, though, set a new St Vincent and the Grenadines record in the 50m Backstroke when she timed 33.11s.

However, Greene and Joachim could only compete at the championships as exhibition swimmers, given that they are not Bahamians.

But it does not stop there for the two, as Greene will be in Azura, Florida, USA for a three -week camp, and for Joachim, he will continue training in Canada, and will compete at the Ontario Provincial Swimming Championships in Canada, July 4-7, 2024.

The Pool events of the Swimming segment at the 2024 Olympic Games, takes place from July 27 to August 4.

The Games run from July 26 to August 11.
