Vincentian sailing trio finish well in US Championships
Three young Vincentian sailors, Kai Marks-Dacent, Lily Punnett, and Joshua Weinhardt, all members of the Vincy Sailing Club, finished in podium positions at the recently held O’pen Skiff North American Championships.
Staged at Clarks Hill Lake, Augusta, Georgia, USA, from April 19 to 21, 2024, the trio acquitted themselves well.
Thirteen year old Dasent-Marks, competing in the Under-15 category was second and third overall; with 10 year old Punnett finishing third in the Girls Under-12 age group.
And, Marks-Dacent, in combination with Weinhardt, 12 years old, docked in third in the Freestyle category.
During the three days of competition, the three Vincentians were engaged in a total of 12 races which reports say were in varied conditions and temperatures.
They were among 80 young sailors, between the ages 8 and 18 drawn from Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and the USA, who pitted their skills in the championships.
The Vincentian participants were in unison that they were worthy participants and were happy for the experience.
Sabrina Marks-Dasent, who managed the team counted the experience as providing “ invaluable learning opportunities”, despite the long trek to get to Georgia, as well as the varied weather conditions.
